An opportunity comes up with a team or league you don't know much about and suddenly you're texting former teammates, calling guys you played with three years ago, asking your agent, or trying to find someone who knows someone.
What's the coach like?
Do they treat guys well?

What's the city like?

What are the imports getting?
The contract tells you one part of the story. It doesn't tell you what it's actually like to play there.
For a long time, that information has lived almost entirely between players.
